July 15: Oilers re-sign centre Ryan O’Marra to a one-year contract.  O'Marra played the majority of last season with Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League, scoring 2-20-22 with 49 PIM in 53 games.  He added 1-4-5 with 13 PIM in 21 games with Edmonton.
July 15: Oilers re-sign defenceman Taylor Chorney to a one-year contract.  Chorney played most of last season with Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League where he scored 3-13-16 with 22 PIM in 46 games.  He added 1-3-4 with 4 PIM in 12 games with Edmonton.
July 12:
Oilers trade centre Andrew Cogliano to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a second round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. 

Cogliano, who was originally selected by the Oilers in the first round (25th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, scored 11-24-35 with 64 PIM in 82 games with Edmonton last season.

July 5: Oilers centre Andrew Cogliano files for salary arbitration.  If Cogliano and the Oilers are unable to come to a new deal, his salary for next season will be determined by an arbitrator.  In the meantime, no team can tender an offer sheet to Cogliano.  Last season, Cogliano scored 11-24-35 with 64 PIM in 82 games
July 5: Oilers sign free agent forward Ryan Keller to a one-year, two-way contract. Keller, 27, scored 32-19-51 in 72 games with the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League last season.  He added 10-15-25 in 23 playoff games as he led the Senators to the Calder Cup Championship.
July 5: Oilers sign goaltender Yann Danis to a one-year, two-way contract.  Danis, 30, spent last season with Amur Khabarovsk in the KHL where he had a record of 8-17-3 with a 3.05 GAA and a .910 save percentage.  Danis has played in 45 career NHL games with Montreal, the New York Islanders and New Jersey and has a 16-20-3 record with a 2.72 GAA and .912 save percentage.
July 4: Oilers re-sign defenceman Theo Peckham to a one-year, $1.075-million contract.  Peckham scored 3-10-13 with 198 PIM in 71 games with the Oilers last season.
July 3: Oilers free agent forward Josh Green to a one-year, two-way contract.  Green, 33, split last season between the Anaheim Ducks and their AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch.  In 12 games with Anaheim, he was held scoreless with 6 PIM, while in 69 games with Syracuse he scored 15-31-46 with 74 PIM.

This is the second tour of duty for Green with the Oilers.  He played parts of three seasons in Edmonton between 2000-2001 and 2002-2003.

July 2: Oilers sign 2011 first overall pick Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to a three year NHL entry level contract. Nugent-Hopkins scored 31-75-106 with 51 PIM in 69 games with the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League 
July 1: Oilers free agent defenceman Corey Potter to a one-year two-way contract.  Potter, 27, scored 7-30-37 with 52 PIM in 75 games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League last season. In 321 career AHL games, he has scored 28-111-139 with 52 PIM.  He has 1-1-2 with 2 PIM in 9 career NHL games with the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh.
July 1:
Oilers acquire defenceman Andy Sutton from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for defenceman Kurtis Foster.  Sutton, 36, scored 0-4-4 with 140 PIM in 39 games with Anaheim last season.  In 624 career NHL games, Sutton has scored 35-105-140 with 1105 PIM.  He will earn $2.25 million next season before becoming an unrestricted free agent.

Foster struggled with the Oilers after signing as a free agent on July 1, 2010, scoring 8-14-22 with 45 PIM in 75 games

Oilers sign free agent centre Eric Belanger to a three year, $5.25 million contract.  Belanger, 33, scored 13-27-40 with 36 PIM in 82 games with the Phoenix Coyotes last season.  Belanger has scored 134-205-339 with 319 PIM in 716 career NHL games with Los Angeles, Carolina, Atlanta, Minnesota, Washington and Phoenix.

Oilers sign free agent left-winger Darcy Hordichuk to a one-year, $825,000 contract.  Hordichuk, 30, scored 1-4-5 with 76 PIM with the Florida Panthers last season  Hordichuk has scored 19-19-38 with 1074 PIM In 495 career NHL games with  Vancouver, Nashville, Atlanta, Phoenix and Florida.

Oilers sign free agent defenceman Cam Barker to a one year, $2.25 million contract.  Barker, 25, scored just 1-4-5 with 34 PIM in 52 games with the Minnesota Wild last season before being bought out this summer.  Barker has scored 19-73-92 with 263 PIM in 271 career NHL games with the Chicago and Minnesota.

Oilers sign free agent left-winger Ben Eager to a three-year, $3.3 million contract.  Eager, 27, scored 7-10-17 with 120 PIM in 68 games with the Atlanta Thrashers and San Jose Sharks last season.  The 6’2”, 235-pound winger has scored 34-35-69 with 741 PIM in 323 career NHL games with Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta and San Jose.

July 1: Oilers buy out the contract of defenceman Sheldon Souray.  The Oilers will absorb a salary cap hit of $2.4 million in 2011-2012 and $1.5 million in 2012-2013 to part ways with Souray.

June 30: Oilers place defenceman Sheldon Souray on unconditional waivers for the purposes of buying him out.  Souray spent last season in the minors after calling out OIlers management on a variety of issues.  The Oilers have tried unsuccessfully to trade Souray for the last two seasons.
June 30: Oilers re-sign defenceman Ladislav Smid to two-year, $4.5 contract that will pay him $2.25 million for each of the next two seasons.  Smid scored 0-10-10 with 85 PIM in 78 games with Edmonton last season.
June 27: Oilers do not tender qualifying offers to left wingers Jean-Francois Jacques and Zack Stortini, making both players unrestricted free agents.  Jacques scored 4-1-5 with 63 PIM in 51 games with the Oilers last season, while Stortini scored 0-4-4 with 76 PIM in 32 games before being demoted to Oklahoma City of the American Hockey League for the remainder of the season.

Oilers acquire left winger Ryan Smyth from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for centre 
Colin Fraser and a 2012 seventh round draft pick.  Smyth, 35, scored 23-24-47 with 35 PIM in 
82 games with Los Angeles last season.  Smyth, who was originally drafted by Edmonton in the first round (6th overall) of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft, will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2011-12 season.

June 24: Oilers draft centre Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (1st overall) and defenceman Oscar Klefbom (19th overall) in the first round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. 

Nugent-Hopkins scored 31-75-106 with 51 PIM in 69 games with the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League last season and was widely touted as the consensus number one pick in this year's draft. 

Klefbom scored 1-1-2 with 2 PIM in 23 games with Farjestads of the Swedish Elite League last year.

June 15: Oilers sign free agent centre Lennart Petrell to a one year contract and free agent forward Antti Tyrvainen to a two-year entry level contract.

Petrell, 27, has played the last seven seasons with HIFK Helsinki of the Finnish Elite League.  Last season he scored 13-22-35 in 56 games. 

Tyrvainen, 22, has played the last three seasons with the Lahti Pelicans of the Finnish Elite League.  Last season he recorded 14-9-23 in 52 games.
