ASSISTANT GM PRENDERGAST FIRED
April 22, 2010

Oilers announce that the team has fired assistant general manager Kevin Prendergast.  Prendergast, who had been with the organization for the past 20 years, was in charge of the Oilers' scouting and minor league system.

The move is not surprising after the Oilers minor league affiiliate, the Springfield Falcons, missed the playoffs for two years in a row and finished dead last in the 29-team American Hockey League this past season.  Prendergast has also been criticized for past draft mistakes, like picking unheralded Jesse Niinimaki in the first round in 2002, and passing on New Jersey Devils star Zach Parise when the organization traded down to select Marc-Antoine Pouliot in 2003.
