name Steve
Tambellini as the team's new General Manager. Kevin
Lowe moves up to the newly-created position of President of Hockey
Operations, and Kevin Prendergast assumes the role of Assistant General
Manager.
Tambellini,
who has been signed to a four-year contract, joins the Oilers after
17 years with the Vancouver Canucks organization. He has spent the
last three seasons as the Canucks' Assistant General Manager and Vice-President
of Hockey Operations.
Lowe
had been the Oilers General Manager since June 9, 2000. |

re-sign goaltender Jeff
Drouin-Deslauriers to a two-year, $1.25 million contact. The
one-way contract will pay Drouin-Deslauriers $550,000 this season and $700,000
in 2009-2010. Drouin-Deslauriers had a 26-23-5 record with a 2.90
goals against average and a .912 save percentage with the Springfield Falcons
of the American Hockey League last season. |

sign centre Shawn
Horcoff to a six-year, $33 million contract
extenstion that will run through the the 2014-15 season. The deal
will pay Horcoff $7 million in 2009-10, $6.5 million in both 2010-11 and
2011-12, $6 million in 2012-13, $4 million in 2013-14 and $3 million in
2014-15. Horcoff scored 21-29-50 in 53 games with the Oilers last
season before a shoulder injury that required surgery brought his year
to an end. |

Stortini to a three year, $2.1 million contract. Stortini scored
3-9-12 with 201 PIM in 66 games with the Oilers last season. The
new contract will pay him $600,000 next season, $700,000 in 2009-2010 and
$800,000 in 2010-2011. |

Corazzini to an undisclosed one-year contract. Corazzini, a journeyman
minor-leaguer, scored 24-36-60 with 14 PIM in 80 games with Grand Rapids
of the American Hockey League last season. Corazzini has played a
total of 19 NHL games over the past 8 years, scoring 2-1-3 with 2 PIM. |

free agent defenceman Jason
Strudwick to an undisclosed one-year contract. Strudwick scored
1-1-2 with 40 PIM in 52 games with the New York Rangers last season.
The 11 year NHL veteran has
scored 11-27-38 with 678 PIM in 488 career NHL games with the New York
Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks and New York Rangers. |

Oilers re-sign centre Marc-Antoine
Pouliot and left winger Jean-Francois
Jacques to two-year contracts.
Pouliot has signed a one-way
contract that will pay him $725,000 in 2008-2009 and $925,000 in 2009-2010.
The 24-year-old split last season between Edmonton and Springfield of the
American Hockey League. He scored 21-26-47 with 47 PIM in 55 AHL
games, and added 1-6-7 with 12 PIM in 24 games with the Oilers.
Jacques deal is a two-way
contract for the first season and one-way for the second year, but the
financial terms were not disclosed. He played the first nine games
of the season with the Oilers last season, going scoreless with 2 PIM.
He was reassigned to Springfiield where he added 11-14-25 with 63 PIM in
38 games before suffering a back injury and missing the remainder of the
season. |

Chorney to a three-year NHL entry level contract. Chorney, the
Oilers’ second round pick (36th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, scored
3-21-24 with 24 PIM in 43 games with the University of North Dakota of
the NCAA last season. |

Erik
Cole from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenceman
Joni
Pitkanen.
Cole, 29, scored 22-29-51
with in 73 games with Carolina last season. He will make $4 million
next season and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of 2008-2009.
Pitkanen scored 8-18-26 with
56 PIM in 63 games with Edmonton last year. He was made expendible
after the Oilers acquired defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky earlier in the week. |

| Oilers acquire centre Gilbert
Brule from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for left winger
Raffi
Torres.
Brule, the sixth overall
pick in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft split last season with Columbus
of the NHL and Syracuse of the AHL. He scored 1-8-9 with 24 PIM in
61 NHL games, and added 5-5-10 and 44 PIM in 16 AHL games. He is
under contract for one-more year at $1.19 million and will be a restricted
free agent at the end of 2008-2009.
Torres, who had two years
remaining on his contract ($2.4 million in 2008-2009 and $2.75 million
in 2009-2010) struggled with inconsistency and injury last season, scoring
5-6-11 with 36 PIM in 32 games. |
