May 31: Oilers sign centre Milan Kytnar to a three-year NHL entry level contract. Kytnar, the Oilers' fifth round pick (127th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, scored 27-37-64 with 89 PIM in 65 games with the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League last season.
May 27: Oilers sign defenceman Alex Plante to a three-year NHL entry level contract.  Plante, a first round pick (15th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, scored 8-37-45 with 157 PIM in in 68 games with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League last season.

Oilers name Pat Quinn as the club's new Head Coach and Tom Renney as Associate Coach. Kelly Buchberger will stay on as Assistant Coach.

Quinn becomes the ninth head coach in franchise history and comes to Edmonton with an extensive coaching resume which includes 1318 regular season games, 92 playoff games, two Stanley Cup Final appearances and two Jack Adams Awards as the National Hockey League’s Coach-of-the-Year.  His NHL head coaching record is 657-481-154-26.

Renney joins the Oilers after five seasons as Head Coach of the New York Rangers. In 327 games with the Rangers, he compiled a record of 164-121-42 and led the team to three-straight playoff appearances.

May 19: Oilers sign defenceman Johan Motin to a three-year NHL entry level contract.  Motin, the Oilers' fourth round pick (104th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, scored 0-3-3 with 28 PIM in 52 gmaes with Farjestads BK Karlstad of the Swedish Elite League.

Apr. 15:
Oilers fire head coach Craig MacTavish.  Under MacTavish, the Oilers finished 11th in the Western Conference and missed the playoffs for a third-straight season.  MacTavish coached the team for eight seasons between 2000-01 and 2008-09 and had an overall record of 301-252-103 in 656 regular season games. 

MacTavish was widely credited for taking the 2005-2006 Oilers to the seventh game of the Stanley Cup Finals, but also missed the playoffs in five of his eight years at the helm of the Oilers.

General Manager Steve Tambellini said no timeline has been set to name a replacement for MacTavish.

Mar. 30: Oilers place defenceman Ladislav Smid on the NHL Injured Reserve List with a fractured left hand and recall defenceman Taylor Chorney from the Springfield Falcons on the American Hockey League.  Chorney has scored 5-16-21 with 22 PIM in 68 games with Springfield this season
Mar. 23: Oilers sign right winger Jordan Eberle to a three-year NHL entry level contract.  Eberle, the Oilers first round draft pick (22nd overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, scored 35-39-74 in 61 games with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League.
Mar. 11: Oilers activate left winger Ethan Moreau from the NHL Injured Reserve List.  Moreau missed four games after suffering an eye injury after being hit by a stick in the Feb. 28 game against Minnesota.
Mar. 11: Oilers recall defenceman Theo Peckham from the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.
Mar. 5: Oilers place left winger Ethan Moreau on the NHL Injured Reserve List.  Moreau suffered an eye injury after being hit by a stick in the Feb. 28 game against Minnesota.

Oilers complete a three-way deal with the Carolina Hurricanes and Los Angeles Kings, ultimately acquiring left winger Patrick O'Sullivan and a Los Angeles 2009 2nd round draft pick in exchange for right winger Erik Cole and a 2009 5th round pick.

The Oilers then flipped the draft pick to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for right winger

__ Erik Cole and a 5th round pick to Carolina for Patrick O'Sullivan and 2nd round pick 
__ Los Angeles 2nd round pick to Buffalo for Ales Kotalik

In 62 games with Los Angeles this season, O'Sullivan has scored 14-23-37 with 16 PIM.  He is under contract through the 2010-11 season for an $2,925,000 per season.

Kotalik, an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, has scored 13-19-31 with 28 PIM in 56 games with Buffalo. 

Cole, who would have also been an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year, has scored 16-11-27 with 63 PIM in 63 games.

Feb. 28: Oilers activate defenceman Denis Grebeshkov from the NHL Injured Reserve List and reassign defenceman Theo Peckham to the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League
Feb. 26: Oilers activate right winger Fernando Pisani from the NHL Injured Reserve List.  Pisani has missed the last 42 games with a fractured left ankle.  He has scored 2-4-6 with 4 PIM in 16 games this season.
Feb. 19: Oilers place defenceman Denis Grebeshkov on the NHL Injured Reserve List.  Grebeskov suffered a right high ankle sprain during a Feb. 11 game against Montreal.
Feb. 18: Oilers recall left winger Jean-Francois Jacques from his two week conditioning stint with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.  In eight games with Springfield, Jacques scored 1-5-6 with 13 PIM.
Feb. 13: Oilers recall defenceman Theo Peckham from the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.
Feb. 8: Defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky will miss the remainder of the season after an MRI on his right shoulder revealed that he will require surgery to repair an injured labrum.  Visnovsky had scored 8-23-31 with 30 PIM in 50 games with the Oilers this season.
Feb. 8: Oilers reassign defenceman Theo Peckham to the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League.
Feb. 6: Oilers recall defenceman Theo Peckham from the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League, and reassign centre Ryan Potulny to the Falcons.
Feb. 6: Oilers activate left winger Jean-Francois Jacques from the NHL Injured Reserve List and reassign him to the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League on a two-week conditioning stint.  Jacques missed the Oilers first 51 games of the season with a back injury.
Feb. 5: Oilers place defenceman Lubomir Visnovsky on the NHL Injured Reserve List.  Visnovsky suffered a dislocated right shoulder during a Feb. 3 game against Chicago.
