TJARNQVIST SIGNS WITH RUSSIAN TEAM

Former Oilers defenceman Daniel Tjarnqvist has signed an undisclosed contract with Locomotiv Yaroslavl of the Russian Super League.  Tjarnquist, who spent much of the year on the Injured Reserve List, scored 3-12-15 in 37 games with the Oilers last season.  Tjarnqvist was not offered a contract by the Oilers after becoming an unrestricted free agent last July.

OILERS NAME MACGREGOR HEAD SCOUT

The Oilers have announced the appointment of Stu MacGregor as their head scout.  MacGregor, who has been with the Oilers for eight seasons, will be responsible for the team’s amateur scouting staff and will run Edmonton’s table at the NHL Entry Draft.


BELL NEW ASSISTANT COACH WITH FALCONS

David Bell has been named as an assistant coach with the Springfield Falcons, the Oilers' American Hockey League affiliate. Bell has been an assistant coach with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League for the last three years.

DAUM NAMED OILERS NEW ASSISTANT COACH

Rob Daum has been named as the new assistant coach of the Oilers.  Daum, who signed a one-year contract, has spent past two seasons as the head coach of the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League where he had a 77-67-16 record.  Prior to that, Daum spent 10 seasons as coach of the University of Alberta Golden Bears, where he had an overall record of 345-79-32 and led the Golden Bears to three national championships. 


SIMPSON RESIGNS TO ACCEPT HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA POSITION

Edmonton Oilers assistant coach Craig Simpson has resigned from his his position with the team to accept a colour commenting position with CBC’s Hockey Night In Canada. Simpson had been with the Oilers coaching staff since the 2003-04 season.


EIG REJECTS KATZ'S OFFER -- OILERS NOT FOR SALE

The Edmonton Investor's Group (EIG) has rejected an offer from Rexall owner Daryl Katz to buy the Oilers.  EIG chairman Cal Nichols told the media that the group "resoundingly" rejected Katz's bid, believed to be worth $185 million.  "We had a motion and a vote and declared the Oilers are not for sale," Nichols said.


BUCHBERGER NAMED COACH OF OILERS AHL TEAM

Kelly Buchberger has been named as the new head coach of the Springfield Falcons, the Oilers' American Hockey League affiiliate. Buchberger, who was an assistant coach with the Edmonton Road Runners of the AHL in 2004-05, spent last year working with the Oilers' prospects as Development Coach. Bob Mancini will now take on that role.


WARD NAMED BRUINS ASSISTANT COACH
Aug. 1, 2007

Former Springfield Falcons head coach Geoff Ward has been named as assistant coach of the Boston Bruins.  The move comes just over two months after Ward accepted the position of head coach with the Oilers' American Hockey League affiliate.  A new head coach for Springfield has yet to be named.
