OILERS FARM SYSTEM IN CHAOS

CONKLIN SIGNS WITH COLUMBUS
July 6

Goaltender Ty Conklin signed an undisclosed two-year, NHL-AHL contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets.  Conklin became an unrestricted free agent after the Oilers declined the option on his contract.

In 72 games with the Oilers last year, Laraque scored 2-10-12 with 73 PIM.  He added 1-1-2 with 44 PIM in 15 playoff games.

The Oilers' defence corps got even thinner after defenceman Jaroslav Spacek signed a three-year, $10 million contract with the Buffalo Sabres.  Spacek cited the decreased travel in the Eastern Conference as his primary motivation for signing elsewhere.

Spacek scored 5-14-19 in 31 games after joining the Oilers mid-season.  In 24 playoff games, he added 3-11-14.
