Spacek
Salmelainen
Oilers acquire defenceman Jaroslav Spacek and a conditional draft pick from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for left winger Tony Salmelainen and a conditional pick.

Spacek, who is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, has scored 7-17-24 with 72 PIM and a +8 rating in 45 games with Chicago this season.

Jan. 26
Oilers acquire defenceman Dick Tarnstrom from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenceman Cory Cross and left winger Jani Rita.

Tarnstrom, who is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, has scored 5-5-10 with 52 PIM and a -10 rating in 33 games with Pittsburgh this year.

Cross has scored 2-3-5 with 38 PIM and a -5 rating in 34 games with the Oilers this year.  He had fallen out of favour with the fans due to his lack if foot-speed and frequent giveaways in his own zone, and had dropped behind rookie Matt Greene on the Oilers' depth chart.

Rita, who never could work his way out of Craig MacTavish's doghouse, scored 3-0-3 with 6 PIM in 21 games with the Oilers this season.

Dan Smith to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL.

Nov. 11
Oilers claim center Krys Kolanos off waivers from the Phoenix Coyotes.  Kolanos, the 19th overall pick in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, has scored 17-18-35 with 74 PIM in 109 NHL games.  This season, the 6'3, 206 pound center has 2-1-3 with 2 PIM in nine games with Phoenix.

This acquisition appears to be yet-another reclamation project for the Oilers, but it isn't a very costly one.  The Oilers will have to pay a $54,000 waiver fee, but Kolanos is on a two-way contract that will pay him $543,400 this season if he remains with the Oilers, and just $75,000 if he is sent to the minors.

OCTOBER, 2005
Date Transaction
Oct. 29 Oilers re-assign left winger Brad Winchester to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL.  The move comes as a result of Ty Conklin's demotion to the Bulldogs for conditioning purposes.  His roster spot is still held with the Oilers, and the addition of goaltender Mike Morrison in his absence had put the team on over the 23-man roster limit.
Oct. 21 Oilers activate left winger Todd Harvey  from the Injured Reserve List.  He missed eight games with a sprained ankle.
Oct. 21 Oilers recall goaltender Michael Morrison from the Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL and assign netminder
Ty Conklin to the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs for conditioning purposes.  In four games with the Oilers this season, Conklin has a 1-1-0 record with a 4.39 goals-against average and a .836 save percentage. Morrison, meanwhile, is 1-1-0 with a 3.01 goals-against average and .895 save percentage in two games with Greenville.

In an unrelated move, the Oilers also re-assign center Kyle Brodziak to the Iowa Stars of the AHL

Oct. 21 Oilers activate left winger Ryan Smyth from the Injured Reserve List.  He missed six games with a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

Oct. 12 Oilers re-assign goaltender Michael Morrison to the Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL.  Despite leading the team during the pre-season with a 2-0-0 record, 0.48 GAA and a .978 save percentage, the Oilers couldn't find room for Morrison on their roster or with one of their AHL affiliates.
Oct. 9 Left winger Ryan Smyth suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee in a game against the Vancouver Canucks and is sidelined indefinitely.
Oct. 7 Oilers activate goaltender Jussi Markkanen from the Injured Reserve List.  Markkanen missed all of training camp with a fractured left collarbone.
Oct. 7 Oilers sign center Rob Schremp to a three-year entry level contract.  Schremp, the 25th overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, has been reassigned to his junior team, but he could have re-entered the draft if not signed by next June.  Schremp's contract will pay him $600,000 the first year, $625,000 the second and $650,000 the third.

Schremp scored one goal in six pre-season games with the Oilers this year.  Last season with the London Knights of the OHL, he talled 41-49-90 in 62 games.

Oct. 5 Oilers activate defenceman Igor Ulanov from the Injured Reserve List, and place defenceman Dan Smith on waivers for the purpose of assigning him to the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL.
