Statsny
Oilers acquire center Yan Stastny from the Boston Bruins in exchange for the Bruins’ 4th round draft choice in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.  This pick had previously been acquired by Edmonton in the Brad Isbister trade on Aug. 1.

Stastny, who signed a two year deal with the Oilers following the trade, played last season for the Nurnberg Ice Tigers of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL), scoring 23-30-54 with 60 PIM in 60 games.  The 5’11”, 195 pound forward is the son of Hockey Hall of Famer Peter Stastny, and was drafted by Boston in the 8th round (259th overall) in 2002.

Aug. 29
Oilers sign defenceman Danny Syvret to a three-year entry-level contract. Syvret, the Oilers' 3rd choice (81st overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, captained the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League to a record setting 59-7-2 regular season record and the Memorial Cup championship.  In 62 games with the Knights, Syvret scored 23-46-69 with 33 PIM.  He added 5-15-20 in 18 playoff games.

Horcoff
Oilers re-sign center Shawn Horcoff to a one-year, $1 million contract, avoiding a salary arbitration hearing that had been scheduled for Aug. 25.

Horcoff played last season for Mora IK in the Swedish Elite League, scoring 19-27-46 with 117 PIM in 50 games.  In his last NHL season with the Oilers in 2003-04, he had 15-25-40 with 73 PIM in 80 games.

Aug. 16
Oilers re-sign left winger Raffi Torres to a two-year, $1.975 million contract.

Torres played last season for the AHL Edmonton Road Runners, scoring 21-25-46 with 165 PIM in 65 games. Torres had a break-out season in 2003-04, scoring 20-14-34 with 65 PIM in 80 games with the Oilers.

Hemsky
Greene
Oilers announce that right winger Ales Hemsky has accepted his one-year, $901,740 qualifying offer, and sign defenceman Matt Greene to an undisclosed two-year contract.

Hemsky played for Pardubice HC in the Czech League last year, scoring 13-18-31 with 28 PIM in 47 regular season games.  He added 4-10-14 with 26 PIM in 16 playoff games.  In his last NHL season, Hemsky scored 12-22-34 with 14 PIM in 71 games with the Oilers in 2003-04.

Greene, the Oilers'  second round draft choice (44th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, scored 2-8-10 with 126 PIM in 43 games with the University of North Dakota last season.  The 6'3, 223-pound rearguard scored 3-28-31 with 347 PIM in 122 career games with North Dakota from 2002-03 to 2004-05 and is regarded as the Oilers' best defensive prospect.

Aug. 10
Oilers re-sign left winger Jani Rita and center Jarret Stoll to one year contracts, and left winger
Brad Winchester to a two-year deal.

Rita, who signed for the league minimum $450,000, played with HPK Hameenlinna in Finland during the lockout, scoring 21-18-39 with 12 PIM in 56 games. This will probably be Rita's last chance to earn a roster spot with the Oilers.

After a strong rookie season with the Oilers in 2003-04, Stoll played last season with the Edmonton Road Runners, scoring 21-17-38 with 92 PIM in 66 games.  Stoll's contract will pay him $501,600 this season.

Winchester played his second full season in the AHL last year, scoring 22-18-40 with 143 PIM in 76 games with the Road Runners.  The power forward received a one-way contract for $450,000 this season and $500,000 in 2006-07, and should have a good chance at cracking the Oilers' lineup this fall.

Reasoner
Oilers re-sign center Marty Reasoner to a one-year, $650,000 contract and unrestricted free agent defenceman Dan Smith to an undisclosed one-year deal.

Reasoner, who spent most of the 2003-2004 season on the injured reserve list, scored 2-6-8 with 10 PIM in 17 games with the Oilers.

Smith, who was the captain of the AHL Edmonton Road Runners, scored 5-10-15 with 72 PIM in 72 games last year.  Smith signed a two-way contract, so his salary will not count against the Oilers' salary cap unless he makes the team or is called up from the minors.

Aug. 9 Oilers announce the appointment of Geoff Ward to the position of Development Coach.  Ward, who was the coach of the Oilers’ American Hockey League affiliate for the past two-and-a-half seasons, found himself without a job when the organization folded the Edmonton Road Runners after the 2003-04 season.  It is expected that Ward will hold this new position until next season, when the Oilers begin operating a new AHL farm team.
Aug. 5
Oilers re-sign goaltender Jussi Markkanen and unrestricted free agent defenceman Igor Ulanov. Markkanen has agreed to a two-year, $1.7 million contract, while Ulanov signed a one-year, $900,000 deal.

In his last NHL season, Markkanen had a 10-14-3 record with a 2.38 GAA, .918 save percentage and two shutouts in 33 games with the New York Rangers and Edmonton Oilers.

Ulanov, who did not play last season, scored 5-13-18 with 28 PIM in 42 games with Edmonton in 2003-04.. He also led the Oilers in plus/minus at +19.
