Date Transaction
Mar. 9 Oilers acquire college defenceman Tom Gilbert from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for goaltender Tommy Salo and a 2005 sixth round draft pick.  Salo's play had declined steadily this year and the Oilers weren't going to pick up his contract option for next season.  Gilbert, who the Oilers describe as an "an offensive defenceman who moves the puck extremely well" has scored 6-13-19 with 36 PIM in 34 games with the University of Wisconsin Badgers of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Mar. 7 Oilers reassign center Mike Bishai to the Toronto Roadrunners. In 14 games with the Oilers, Bishai scored 0-2-2 with 19 PIM.
Mar. 3
Nedved
In an uncharacteristic move, the Oilers address their two most glaring needs by acquiring center Petr Nedved and goaltender Jussi Markkanen from the New York Rangers in exchange for college center Dwight Helminen, AHL goaltender Stephen Valiquette and a third-round draft pick.

Nedved has scored 14-17-31 in 65 games with the Rangers this season. Markkanen, who rejoins his former team, has posted a record of 8-12-1 with a 2.56 GAA and a .915 save percentage this season.

Mar. 3 Oilers reassign center Chad Hinz and goaltender Tyler Moss to the Toronto Roadrunners.  Neither player played a game for the Oilers.

Feb. 17 Oilers reassign goaltender Mike Morrison to the Toronto Roadrunners.
Feb. 15
Moss
Oilers acquire goaltender Tyler Moss from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for center Peter Sarno.  Moss, a second round draft pick (29th overall) of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 1993, had been playing for the Canucks' AHL affiliate.  His acquisition shores up the Oilers' goaltending depth, which had been depleted by injuries to Ty Conklin and farmhand Stephen Valiquette.
Feb.  15
Oiler recall left-winger Jani Rita and defenceman Marc-Andre Bergeron from the Toronto Roadrunners.  The recalls come after injuries to Radek Dvorak (groin, day-to-day), Raffi Torres (ankle, day-to-day), Brad Isbister (ankle, placed on injured reserve) and Ty Conklin (hand, placed on injured reserve) have left the Oilers shorthanded.
Rita
Feb. 14 Oilers recall goaltender Mike Morrison from the Toronto Roadrunners.  Morrison's recall was prompted after goaltender Ty Conklin broke two bones in his blocker hand during a game against Minnesota Feb. 13.
Feb. 10 Oilers recall center Mike Bishai from the Toronto Roadrunners.
Feb. 5 Oilers reassign left-winger Jani Rita and center Mike Bishai to the Toronto Roadrunners.
