JANUARY, 2002

Jan. 26: ERIC BREWER returns to the lineup after recovering from a sprained left shoulder.
Jan. 24: Oilers announce that  forwards DOMENIC PITTIS and MARTY REASONER are out of the lineup on a day-to-day basis due to injury.  Pittis is sidelined with a mild groin strain while Reasoner is out with a mild sprain of the medial collateral ligament of his left knee.
Jan. 21: Oilers announce that defenceman ERIC BREWER will be out of the lineup on a day-to-day basis after suffering a sprained left shoulder in a game against San Jose.  The injury is not expected to prevent Brewer from participating in the Olympics in February.
Jan. 2: Left winger RYAN SMYTH makes a surprise return to the lineup only seven weeks after fracturing his right ankle during a game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

 
DECEMBER, 2001

Dec. 26: Oilers reassign left winger JASON CHIMERA to the Hamilton Bulldogs.  Chimera scored 1-0-1 in three games with the Oilers.
Dec. 22 Oilers place defenceman TOM POTI on the Injured Reserve List with a fractured finger.  Poti will need to undergo surgery to repair his pinky finger, which was broken when he was slashed by Chicago's Alexei Zhamnov Dec. 21.  Poti is expected to be out action for three weeks.
Dec. 17: Oilers recall left winger JASON CHIMERA from the Hamilton Bulldogs.  Chimera, one of the final cuts from this year's training camp, has scored 14-26-40 with 64 PIM in 30 games this season.
Dec. 16: Defenceman JASON SMITH returns to the lineup after missing six games with a strained lower back.
Dec. 14: Left winger DANIEL CLEARY undergoes successful arthroscopic surgery to repair damage to his right knee.  Cleary is expected to be out of action for 10 days.
Dec. 11: Oilers place left winger DANIEL CLEARY on the Injured Reserve List with a strained right knee.  Cleary will be evaluated by team doctors and may have to undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair the damage.
Dec. 5: Oilers place defenceman JASON SMITH on the Injured Reserve List with a strained lower back.

 
NOVEMBER, 2001

Nov. 17 Oilers announce that left winger RYAN SMYTH has undergone successful surgery to repair a fractured right ankle.  Smyth is expected to be out of the lineup for 8 to 10 weeks.
Nov. 16 Oilers place left winger RYAN SMYTH on the Injured Reserve List.  Smyth broke his right ankle after sliding awkwardly into the boards during a game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Nov. 5 Oilers recall goaltender JUSSI MARKKANEN from the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Nov. 4 Oilers assign goaltender TY CONKLIN to the Hamilton Bulldogs.  Conklin was 2-0 with a 1.62 GAA and a .939 SPCT in four games with Edmonton.
Nov. 4 Oilers assign defenceman KARI HAAKANA to Jokerit of the Finnish Elite League.

 
OCTOBER, 2001

Oct. 19 Oilers reassign defenceman SVEN BUTENSCHON to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Oct. 17 Oilers re-sign hold-out defenceman TOM POTI to a one-year, $925,000 contract.  Poti scored 12-20-32 in 81 regular season games last year, and added 0-2-2 in six playoff games.
Oct. 16 Oilers recall defenceman SVEN BUTENSCHON from Hamilton and assign defenceman KARI HAAKANA to the Bulldogs. 
Oct. 10 Oilers assign goaltender JUSSI MARKKANEN to the Hamilton Bulldogs and recall netminder TY CONKLIN.  Markkanen is slated to start in Hamilton's Oct. 12 home opener against Grand Rapids.
Oct. 3 Oilers sign free-agent right-winger KEVIN BROWN to a one-year minor-league contract.  This is Brown's second stint with the Oilers' organization after splitting last season with Manchester of the BISL and Phoenix and Anchorage of the WCHL. Brown played seven games with Oilers during the 1999-2000 season.
Oct.  1: Oilers reduce their roster to the NHL limit of 23 players, assigning left winger 
JASON CHIMERA and defenceman SVEN BUTENSCHON to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
