The
Oilers issued the following press elease regading the death of former Oiler
player and scout Garnet Bailey, who died today in one of the highjacked

The
Edmonton Oilers have expressed profound regret after being informed that
a former member of the team had perished in the terrorist attack on the

"Ace"
Bailey
|
| Garnet
"Ace" Bailey originally joined the Oilers in 1978-79 as a player in the
World Hockey Association, and then coached in the team's minor league system
for two years. In 1981, he became a scout and stayed with the team
for 13 years.
General
Manager Kevin Lowe says he is devastated by the news that Bailey was a
passenger on one of the aircraft that crashed into the World Trade Center.
In Lowe's words, "Ace was one of the most popular guys in the NHL, and
he was a friend to all of us. You will be hard-pressed to find anyone
who hasn't been touched by his incredible personality, and words simply
can't express how we feel right now. Our heartfelt condolences go out to
Ace's wife Kathy and his son Todd."
Lowe
has also extended sympathy to the family of L.A. Kings scout Mark Bavis
who was also on the flight. |
