Sept. 26: Oilers reassign defencemen SCOTT FERGUSON and ALAIN NASREDDINE  to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Sept. 23: Oilers re-sign left-winger RYAN SMYTH to a three year contract.  Smyth, who has missed all of training camp in a contract hold-out, scored 28-27-55 in 82 regular season games last season.  He added one goal in five playoff games.
Sept. 22: Oilers cut four more players from their pre-season roster.  Defenceman CHRIS HAJT  and centers SHAWN HORCOFF and PETER SARNO were assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs.  Defenceman ALEXEI SEMENOV was returned to the Sudbury Wolves of the Ontario Hockey League.
Sept. 19: Oilers make their second round of training camp cuts, assigning right wingers DEVIN HARTNELL, PAUL HEALEY and BRIAN URICK, left-winger ALEXANDER VOLCHKOV and defenceman TERRAN SANDWITH to the Hamilton Bulldogs
Sept. 14: Center MIKE COMRIE leaves training camp and elects to return to the Kootenay Ice of the WHL.  Comrie hopes to take advantage of a loophole in the NHL drafting process that allows players who give up their final year of college eligibility to become unrestricted free agents.  If the Oilers do not sign him before June 1, 2001, Comrie is free to go to the highest bidder.  Because the Oilers can only offer him the rookie salary cap of $1.025 million, it seems doubtful that Comrie, who was drafted in the 3rd round (91st overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, will ever play for Edmonton.
Sept. 11: Oilers announce that right winger MIKE GRIER will not be available for the start of the team's eastern road trip after being sidelined with an infected right hand.  He is listed as day-to-day.

JUNE, 2000
Date Transaction
June 30: Oilers elect not to make a qualifying offer to right winger ALEXANDER SELIVANOV, who now becomes an unrestricted free agent. Despite being the team's third-leading scorer with 27-20-47, the Oilers felt Selivanov's inconsistent play was not worth the mandatory 10% raise on his $1.7 million dollar contract that would have been required to keep his rights.

Other players who were not tendered qualifying offers by the Oilers included: Adam Copeland (RW), Boyd Devereaux (C), Mike Minard (G), Rob Murray (C) and Michel Picard (LW).

June 24: Oilers trade defenceman ROMAN HAMRLIK to the New York Islanders for defenceman ERIC BREWER, left winger JOSH GREEN and a second round (35th overall) draft pick.  The Oilers used this pick to select University of Wisconsin left winger BRAD WINCHESTER.

Hamrlik has been the Oilers' best defenceman for the past two seasons, but he was due for a new contract this summer and would likely have demanded more than the team could afford.  Last season, Hamrlik scored 8-36-44 in 80 games with the Oilers, and added one assist in five playoff games.
