JANUARY, 1999

Jan. 29: Oilers trade left-winger ANDREI KOVALENKO to the Philadephia Flyers for center ALEXANDRE DAIGLE.  The Oilers then trade Daigle to the Tampa Bay Lightning for right-winger ALEXANDER SELIVANOV.  Selivanov has scored 6-13-19 in 43 games with the Lightning this season.  He has a scored 78-77-155 in 304 career games.
Jan. 24: Oilers buy-out the contract of left-winger BILL HUARD.  Huard has now signed on with the Houston Aeros of the IHL, and is free to sign with any NHL team that may want him.  Huard, who was signed as a free-agent by the Oilers in the summer of 1997, played only 33 games in two seasons. 
Jan. 22: Oilers assign left-winger BILL HUARD and defenceman TODD REIRDEN to Hamilton.  Rierden's reassignment is likely only for the duration of the all-star break.
Jan. 13: Center JIM DOWD is reassigned to Hamilton.
Jan. 6: Oilers recall center JIM DOWD and defenceman TODD REIRDEN from Hamilton. 
Jan. 6: Oilers place right-winger KELLY BUCHBERGER and defenceman ROMAN HAMRLIK on the injured reserve.  Buchberger is expected to be out of action up to two months after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured right forearm.  Hamrlik could be out of the line-up for three weeks with a fractured big toe on his right foot.

Dec. 28: Oilers recall right winger GEORGES LARAQUE from the Hamilton Bulldogs and reassign right-winger FREDRIK LINDQVIST and defenceman CRAIG MILLAR to the Bulldogs. 
Dec. 6: Oilers recall right-wing FREDRIK LINDQVIST from the Hamilton Bulldogs.

Oct. 31: Oilers announce center DOUG WEIGHT will be placed on the injured reserve for 10 to 12 weeks to recover from a torn MCL in his right knee. Weight is scheduled to undergo surgery November 3.
Oct. 20: Center DANIEL LACROIX is reassigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Oct. 19: Oilers sign defenceman BRAD NORTON to a two-year contract and assign him to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Oct. 19: Oilers re-sign restricted free-agent center DOUG WEIGHT to a two-year contract. According to the NHLPA, the deal will pay Weight $3.5 million U.S. this season and $4.3 million U.S. next year. This is the highest salary the Oilers have ever paid to a player.
Oct. 13: Right-winger FREDRIK LINDQVIST is reassigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Oct. 12: Oilers re-sign restricted free-agent left-winger RYAN SMYTH to a one-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Oct. 7: The Oilers conduct their final round of cuts, trimming their roster to 24 for the opening of the season. Right winger GEORGES LARAQUE and left winger JOE HULBIG are assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs. Center MARK LAMB, who was in training camp on a try-out, is awaiting reassignment.
Oct. 6: Newly-acquired center JIM DOWD is assigned to Hamilton, along with center CHRIS FERRARO, who was signed as a free agent in the off-season.
Oct. 5: Oilers trade left-wing VALERI ZELEPUKIN to the Philadelphia Flyers for center DANIEL LACROIX. The 29-year-old Lacroix scored 1-4-5 with 135 PIMs in 56 games with the Flyers last season.
Oct. 5: The Oilers are the only NHL team to lose two players in the annual waiver draft as Nashville picks up the rights to left-winger ZDENO CIGER and Chicago claims right-wing DENNIS BONVIE.
Oct. 4: Left-wingers JASON BOWEN and DAN LACOUTURE are assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Oct. 3: Goaltender TIM THOMAS is assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Oct. 1: Oilers sign free-agent defenceman MARTY McSORLEY to a one year contract. This is McSorley's second tour of duty with the Oil, also having played with the team from 1985 to 1988 before being dealt to Los Angeles as part of the Wayne Gretzky trade.
Oct. 1: Oilers trade goaltender ERIC FICHAUD and defencemen DRAKE BEREHOWSKY and GREG DeVRIES to Nashville for center JIM DOWD and goaltender MIKHAIL SHTALENKOV.  The surprise move leaves the Oilers with a pair of goaltenders over the age of 30, and no real solid netminding prospects in their farm system.
